Data Center Advisory
Services.
Trusted counsel across every layer of a data center business — engineering, operations, leadership, and strategy. Independent, deal-by-deal, or retained.
Counsel that earns its seat at the table.
Data center advisory is the work of helping owners, operators, and investors make better decisions about physical infrastructure that few of them spend their days inside. CR Technology's advisory practice covers four dimensions — engineering, operations, leadership, and strategy — under one accountable team. We don't sell equipment, we don't take referral fees, and we don't bring a vendor's incentive structure into an engagement. Independence is the product.
The engagements come in three shapes: deal-by-deal diligence packages, embedded program-length retainers, and fractional leadership where the work pattern matches a part-time engineering or operating executive. Most clients use more than one shape over time.
Engineering advisory
Independent counsel on the engineering decisions that shape an asset's economics — power topology, cooling strategy, network design, AI-readiness, modernization sequencing, and the retrofit decisions that have to be staged around live tenants. We work alongside your engineering firm or in place of one; where licensed work is required, we coordinate it and integrate it under one accountable team. See Engineering Services for the in-house engineering practice this advisory work draws on.
Operational assessments and uplift
Top-to-bottom reviews of how a live facility actually runs — staffing model, shift patterns, runbook discipline, change management, vendor structure, tenant management, compliance posture, capacity headroom, and the gap between the operating target and the actual operating cadence. Deliverable is a written assessment with severity-ranked findings and a 30/60/90 uplift plan that owners and operators can pick from.
Leadership and organizational design
DCT and CIE staffing models, shift patterns, escalation structures, on-call rotation, certification tracking, and the organizational design that scales operations without breaking accountability. Where the engagement requires a leader to be in the chair, we provide fractional leadership to carry the function until a full-time hire is right.
Strategy and growth advisory
Market entry, expansion sequencing, M&A counsel, and the operational implications of strategic moves before the term sheet is signed. We work with operators choosing where to grow next, owners considering vertical or horizontal moves, and investors evaluating platform plays. The deliverable is operational and engineering reality translated into language your IC, board, or LP base can act on.
Compliance posture and audit readiness
We map controls once and satisfy frameworks in parallel — SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, NIST 800-53, HITRUST, and the frameworks your tenants bring with them. Audit prep, evidence packaging, and third-party auditor coordination are part of the engagement. Compliance is a cost of doing business — never the headline.
Vendor, contract, and commercial structuring
Vendor selection, contract review, MSA negotiation, and the commercial structuring decisions that determine long-term economics. We are opinionated about how operating relationships should be paid: fee-for-service on defined operational scope, and outcome-tied incentives where the operator and owner can agree on measurable outcomes. We can advise on those structures whether or not we are the operator.
Facility viability and due diligence
Three diligence shapes scaled to deal stage:
- Viability Assessment — pre-LOI screening against ten viability domains (zoning, structure, power, cooling, network, fire/life-safety, security, logistics, operations, compliance). Lightweight, written for an early- stage decision.
- Full Due Diligence — comprehensive technical review, site walks, document review, gap analysis, and severity-ranked findings with capex implications. CR Technology coordinates all engineering disciplines as the single point of accountability.
- Readiness Review — pre-handover or pre- program validation that the facility, team, and operating posture are ready for what's next.
Stakeholder reporting support
Board decks, IC memos, lender packages, LP letters, and the quarterly reporting cadence that asset managers actually use. Our writing is calibrated to the audience — engineering implications for the engineer, operational implications for the operator, financial implications for the IC.
Fractional leadership
Embedded operating or engineering lead at the cadence and cost your stage of growth justifies. Used most often in the first eighteen months of a platform build-out, by emerging operators scaling toward institutional grade, and by asset managers who need engineering judgment without a department to fund.
